LED light therapy: what the colours actually do

Red, blue and near-infrared light each work differently. How LED supports acne, healing and ageing skin.

LED light therapy: what the colours actually do

Quick answer: Red light supports collagen and healing, blue light targets acne-causing bacteria and near-infrared calms inflammation. LED has no downtime and boosts the results of other treatments.

How LED works

Light-emitting diodes deliver specific wavelengths that skin cells respond to. There is no heat damage, so it is comfortable and suits all skin types.

Which colour for which concern

Blue for active breakouts, red for fine lines and recovery, near-infrared for redness and sensitivity. The Opera mask combines wavelengths in one session.

As an add-on

LED after a peel, microneedling or dermaplaning calms the skin and speeds recovery.

How many sessions

A course of 6 to 10 sessions gives the best results for acne or ageing, though one session gives a calming glow.

Common questions

Are home LED masks as good?

Home masks are usually lower powered. They can help with maintenance but take longer.
