How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Why laser is a course rather than one appointment, and how hair, skin and hormones affect the number.
Quick answer: Most people need 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. Face and hormonal areas can need more, plus an occasional top-up each year.
Hair grows in cycles
Only hairs in the active growth phase respond to laser. At any time a portion of hairs are resting, so repeat sessions catch them as they cycle back.
What affects the number
Hair colour, thickness, area and hormones all matter. Dark, coarse hair on legs and underarms responds fastest. Fine or hormonally driven hair on the chin takes longer.
Spacing
Body areas are usually treated every 6 to 8 weeks and the face every 4 to 6 weeks. Coming back too soon wastes sessions.
After your course
Many people need nothing more. Others book a top-up once or twice a year to stay smooth.
Common questions
Can grey or blonde hair be treated?
Laser needs pigment in the hair, so white, grey and very fair hair respond poorly. Electrolysis is usually the better option.
